Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on
Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity(Trade Paperback)
by Serano,
Julia
"Whipping
Girl is a delight to
read. Julia Serano is a careful and astute critic of the ways that
trans women have been stereotyped and dismissed in popular culture,
feminism, and psychology, and she repeatedly surprised me with her
razor-sharp observations of the pervasive hatred of trans women and all
differently gendered people.
This
is an important text for gender studies classes, as well as for
therapists, journalists, and anybody who'd like to keep updated as a
sex radical."
--Patrick
Califia, author of Sex Changes: The Politics of Transgenderism

Some Good Fiction to Read

The Lesser of Two Evils
(Mystery/Horror)
Davis
Briggs moved out of Austin to get away from
the the horrors of
his old life as a homicide detective, and Devine Texas seemed like the
perfect place to make a new life for himself. But the murder of a young
boy destroys his hopes of a quiet life as a deputy of the tiny
town’s
police force.
With every passing day, another child dies, and
Davis finds himself unable to locate any clues as to the
killer’s
identity. His only leads in the case are Wendy Stoffel, a local girl
infamous for her nasty temper and shoplifting habits, and Jobe
McKenzie, a drifter who just happens to have appeared in town on a
“vacation” the same day that the murders begin.
Jobe seemingly has a
lock clad alibi for every murder, while Wendy seems intent on hunting
down the killer herself. And somewhere in Devine, the real killer is
quickly seeking out their next victim.

Waiting for a Miracle (Comedy/Science Fiction)
In
City, California, Duggan Masters is a living
legend. As the criminal
Light Master, he has ascended the ranks to become the undisputed
overlord of all crime in the city.
Yet “the game” ceases to have meaning after
City’s
greatest hero, Miracle Man, vanishes without a trace. Left with only
the local police to foil his plots, Light Master grows increasingly
lethal, and the joy of killing has been lost.
So Duggan does what any criminal overlord would do:
he kidnaps Dr.
Wallace Cornwall, a famous “psychiatrist to the
heroes” and
writer of a best selling self help book for heroes, ‘Our
Masks,
Our Selves’.
Duggan introduces Wallace to Leona, a genetically
engineered assassin
who has turned to working part time as a “cat
burglar”, and
part time as a serial killer.
Wallace talks Duggan and Leona into retirement, but
Duggan has one last
plot to bring Miracle Man out of hiding. But really, how far is one
deranged criminal overlord willing to go, for the love of his hero?

A Whole New Approach to Your
Body, Brain and
Life as a gURL by Esther Drill, Heather McDonald and Rebecca
Odes
From
Gemma:
This book was _awesome
It has beautiful scenes in the book.. like where two
soldiers
who live together (without people discriminating!) adopt two street
kids and train them... there's a few Gods in there who are
bi-gendered.. and thier priests/priestesses can alter thier gender at
will!
The author herself is gay and alot of her tolerance and
values
show in the book. Just thought i'd recommend it in case anyone else is
into fantasy novels. I find there's a severe lack of gender varient
characters in most novels i read..
