[Australia] SRS Results

The most comprehensive study of post-SRS outcomes is “Sex Reassignment.
Thirty Years of International Follow-up
Studies<http://www.symposion.com/ijt/pfaefflin/1000.htm>”
by Friedemann Pfaefflin and Astrid Junge (1992 in German, English
translation 1998). Pfaefflin and Junge used data from over 70 studies, in total considering the outcomes of over 2000 patients from 13 countries. They found that outcomes - measured in terms of “subjective satisfaction; mental stability; socioeconomic functioning; and partnership and sexual experience” - of SRS are generally positive. Overall, 71% of male-to-female (MTF) and 90% of female-to-male (FTM) operations had positive results. When they limited their sample only to more recent patients (who benefited from improvements in techniques and procedures over the decades), the results were positive for 87% of MTFs and 97% for FTMs.

Let's just say, for example, that homosexuality was a crime,
punishable by death. And what if, in this same society, transsexuality
were merely seen as an illness, curable with an operation partially
funded by the state? But this is no Ursula Le Guin novel — this is
Iran, which is second only to Thailand in the number of sex-change
operations performed each year. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad mayclaim that there are no homosexuals in Iran, but estimates of
transsexuals run as high as 150,000. A school nurse called the other day about a trans child who will be starting 5th grade in the fall. She was looking ahead to ways they could work over the summer to prepare so that the child will have a positive experience. A woman called a couple of weeks ago because her church had refused to allow a 2nd grader to return to their parochial school next year, unless the child was dressed according to her birth gender, not her gender identity. She was outraged that this little girl had been excluded from school activities simply because she had been identified male at birth. She said, “this just isn’t right.” What is right is that she reached out in caring for a child.

I don't know if you heard about the two 11-year-old boys who tragically committed suicide because of anti-gay taunts at school in the past two weeks -- Jaheem Herrera lived in the state of Georgia and Carl Walker-Hooper lived in Massachusetts. Both were called "gay" all the time at school and both Carl and Jaheem's moms complained to their schools. They hung themselves because they couldn't take it anymore.

Life, the 60's, transgender tots, and parental abdication

This past week, the Sioux City Journal reported that a local family planned to enroll their 8-year old son in a different school next year. Why? According to them, he is transgender and has wanted to be a girl since he was 4. The evidence? He says he’s wanted to be a girl, been allowed to wear girl clothes at home, and claims his inside doesn’t match his outside. No news on whether surgery will be involved.

http://www.examiner.com/x-11685-Ada-County-Conservative-Examiner~y2009m5d25-Life-the-60s-transgender-tots-and-parental-abdication

An officer was
working traffic enforcement on Mansell Road at Ga. 400 when he noticed a teenage girl in a green Lincoln Towncar was not wearing a seat belt.

He pulled the car over and asked the 17-year-old for some
identification.
